Indira Nooyi is one of the role models, women entrepreneurs look up to

A very less number of women have aced the business world and have reached the top of their game. But, having researched and found, one name comes to every women entrepreneur’s mind who they look up to for inspiration. And the name that has surpassed all names to reach the top and being everyone’s common favourite is Indira Nooyi. Women entrepreneurs have at an instant named Indira Nooyi as their favourite who last year, concluded her 12 year conglomeration with PepsiCo. Which was a revolution in the world of women entrepreneurs.

Starting with a modest and humble background of Chennai’s conservative middle class family, Nooyi was the one to defy all norms. From the very beginning, she challenged patriarchy by being in a girl band and playing cricket. But, her intellect is something to reckon with which took her to a new level altogether. This IIM Calcutta alumni carved her own path to success. After working for companies like Johnson & Johnson, Boston Consulting Group, she finally joined PepsiCo in 1994 with the post of a chief Strategist. It was only a matter of time when she became the CEO of the company in 2006.

In 2008, U.S News and World Report conferred Indira Nooyi to be one of America’s best leaders. Eventually, Forbes ranked her 3rd in the list of World’s 100 most Powerful Women for two consecutive years, 2008 and 2009.

One of the most commendable things about Indira Nooyi is the high level of intellect, hard work and family-work balance which amazes a major part of the world. Nooyi not only has excelled in her professional life, but also in her personal life. She never let her family down and never let her work disrupt her family ambience. Achieving triumph in one aspect along with all other aspects of life is what the true definition of brilliance and success is.

She has gone on record to share the fact that how she overcame all hurdles in life. For instance, while she was selected at the Yale School of Management for another master’s degree, there was a massive pressure put on her by her mother to get married. But, given the determined brain that she is, she surpassed all of these and made it to one of the top Business schools and thereby got married to Raj Nooyi at 25 years of age. She also has two beautiful daughters and has manged to give them ample amount of time and care.

Indira Nooyi believes in the fact one needs to nurture talent as 21st century is a time of “volatility and uncertainty”. She also believes that communication is the key to business in modern times. She said, “We need to communicate all the time”. Indira Nooyi truly is an inspiration to millions. She has perfectly demonstrated how to break the glass ceiling and actually being the glass ceiling being at the top of her game reaching the zenith of success.
